Classic American Muscle Car
This stunning, factory original black with white stripe GT500 has had just three owners from new, and has only 35,000 original miles. Purchased new by Harold Smith on 8/23/68 from Jess Hunter Motor Corporation in Pueblo Colorado, serial #1920 stayed in Smith's ownership until 1993- when his neighbor of 23 years finally convinced Smith to sell it to him! When the second owner bought it, 1920 still wore its factory original paint and had 23,000 original miles on it. While is fantastic condition, the original paint was failing on the fiberglass hood and decklid, so the new owner decided to have the car repainted in 1994. The balance of the car remains completely original and unrestored to this day, right down to the original exhaust! The interior, as you can see, looks just like it did in 1968- it is the best original interior you will ever see. The only non-original addition is a set of Shelby 10-spoke mag wheels that replaced the original steel wheels and hubcaps, and a set of modern radial tires.
This is the quality of Shelby we all dream of finding, and I did just that when I bought it from its second owner in 2006. I later sold the car to a collector in Scottsdale, Az., who has kept it in perfect condition and added about 200 miles to the odometer in just under four years- hence its being offered for sale today.
A real factory black car is special in its own right, but a black car with factory air conditioning is even cooler (no pun intended)- and that is just how 1920 is equipped. Obviously, it also features the full compliment of standard equipment the 1968 GT500's came with, and other options such as the tilt/swing-away steering wheel, power steering, power brakes, and the C6 automatic. In period, Mr. Smith added some very cool "custom" touches, like a trunk-mounted fire extinguisher, power trunk latch release, extra green line SW gauges in the console, Traction-Master traction bars (as fitted to 1966 Shelby GT-350's), and a hidden CD ignition box- just like the ones fitted by Motion Performance to their Supercars.
This is a completely rust and damage free, immaculately presented, and faithfully preserved piece of Shelby history. It runs and drives like brand new, and is as fast and tight as any 1968-1970 Shelby I have ever driven. The A/C blows ice cold, and everything works and performs as new. All of the body panels and Shelby fiberglass are original to the car and flawless. Of course, the engine, transmission, and drivetrain are all 100% factory original to this car.
There is nothing like a sinister black Shelby, especially when it is packing 428 CID to back up its visual presence with real muscle! If you love original, unrestored, rare cars, you need to check this one out. The car is available for inspection at my facility in Scottsdale, Arizona.
